Pinewood Derby Take Aways:
  • Sportsmanship and good citizenship are taught by following derby rules while cheering on friends and den partners as they race against others in the pack.
  • Personal achievement comes when a scout picks up woodworking tools to shape raw wood into his design.  Learning woodworking helps prepare scouts to serve in Boy Scout's service projects.
  • Family understanding is enhanced when building pinewood derby cars.  It offers learning opportunities for scout and family throughout the car building and racing experience.
A few key Pinewood Derby Points:
  1. The scouts should make the cars!
  2. The car must be a made this year.
  3. MUST USE THE KIT WE SUPPLY. All other car body or wheels will be disqualified!
  4. Scout MUST BE PRESENT DURING THE RACE, or his car will not be raced.

All cars MUST pass inspection by the official at the weigh table prior to racing. The inspection points are as follows:

The official Pack 338 scale will be used for ALL cars. Since scales differ, we use ONE scale for all cars.  This ensures that all cars are judged by the standards.

Once your car has passed inspection, you can not touch it until the derby is over.
